Monday 20th September

Accommodation gets a 5/10, losing points for poor location, poor standard, but gaining points for a good breakfast.

Our original plan was to do the walk in 7 days, but as we have had high winds every day and a very tiring 20 miles on the 4th day, plus the problem with my blister, we have decided to take 2 days to do the final 22 miles. The girls are to find accommodation for us and pick us up at about 12 miles leaving 10 miles for the final day.

We set off at about 10-15am and within 1 mile at Boggle Hole we come across Yorkshire Television filming a costume drama, about 20 people in all, the YHA was renamed Smugglers Inn, we thought we might be needed for extras but no offers came so we moved on, I am sure we could have been used as tramps.

Looking back from Ravenscar towards Robins Hood Bay, “We haven’t walked all that way have we?”

We met the girls at Ravenscar and they told us they had found a beautiful place to stay, we reserved judgement until we saw it and how much it was costing.

We trudged on wearily until we reached Scalby Lodge, where the girls were picking us up and taking us to our accommodation, we were getting excited as it was getting a good build up, with extras such as massage being available, I am sure our minds were working overtime by now. We turned into the drive of the Harmony Country Lodge and there in front of us some 100 yards down the drive was an octagonal building, this did look expensive. It was run by Susan & Tony Hewitt M.B.E., Tony was the World Sidecar World Champion 1987, 88, & 89, Tony being the passenger to Steve Webster.  This was my world as I have always been interested in any Motorsport and can remember seeing the “pair in the chair” on TV during their epic battles. The Hewitts run The Fairy Ring, an organisation for friends who love fairies and angels, not something I am at all familiar with. Their was evidence of their love of fairies everywhere, each room has a name instead of the usual number, our name was Peace while Yvonne and Brian’s was Love, so they were in Love. It turned out that it was not expensive as it was only £1 more per person than the previous night so was very good value. We got tidied up and dined at the Blacksmiths Arms at Cloughton a short car ride away, and a very good meal was enjoyed by all.

Our support party, 2` little angels’ or should it be fairies
